I'm not quite sure that I correctly understood your comment about the story of Artyom, but, apparently, I mean the episode on the island, when Artyom tells Lena a certain history of the previous rest and which is not voiced for readers. If so, I have to disagree with you. The story of Artyom has no meaning for the story as a whole. Its essence is the seed, the reason for the creation of the heroes of the appropriate mood, necessary for the further development of the plot. That is, the very fact of having such a “romantic” story and the fact that it is told to Lena is important. And the details, as well as what happened there in the Theme, are not needed. Moreover, they most likely would have damaged the story as a whole, because they distracted the reader from the main plot line - the relationship between Theme and Lena. Therefore, readers will not hear the “Artem's story”. And I think this is right.
And I hope in the near future to please the readers with the continuation of "Debutante".)))
